Lines. A color. A shape. Anja_Kalys' work summons these elements. She articulates them, links them, tangles them and transforms them. A geometric shape is drawn. A flat color is added. Matter appears through paint or ink. She creates without any anticipated artistic goal. Her works reflect a certain meditative state. By taking a close interest in shamanic sciences, yoga, hypnosis and disciplines related to psychology, she approaches her art as a medium for expressing human feelings "linked" to awakened consciousness.
For 15 years, her work has tended from abstract to figurative. There is nothing premeditated in this evolution. Because Anja_Kalys approaches art as she lives. A continual experimentation, an inner exploration. Without expectation.
Simply being.
Self-taught, she learned the profession of AD - Graphic Design at a very young age and through experience. In 2015, she began amateur day classes at the Beaux-Arts in Paris. She worked on abstraction in learning lithography (using hand presses dating from the 1900s). At the same time, she participated in life drawing classes to understand the figurative. She explored the balance between these disciplines, in search of a certain complementarity. An artistic trajectory helped by the "game of painting" created by Arno Stern. She experimented at the "Closlieu" alongside him. This approach showed her and opened up a creative process that left room for spontaneous impulse.
Anja_Kalys likes this feeling of freedom. The idea is to try to escape from her influences. She tends to simplify her approach. In search of an unconstructed evidence. She first focuses on Bauhaus-inspired abstraction via rotring drawing and lithography. Her more current works focus on the figurative and stylization. The line as a creator of form.
